Licensed ACR contractors must:

• Complete a criminal background check
• Pass a thorough exam
• Have 48 months practical experience under the supervision of a licensed contractor OR hold a technician certification and have 36 months practical experience under the supervision of a licensed contractor
• Carry liability insurance
• Maintain yearly continuing education

Report Unlicensed Activity Online

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s (TDLR) “Report the Activity of an Unlicensed Person” online link makes reporting unlicensed activity easier for Texas consumers and will enable TDLR’s staff to fast-track the Department’s investigation.

In addition to air conditioning and electrical contractors, TDLR licenses and oversees 43 industries, including cosmetology, barbering, massage therapy, motor fuel, towing, and dog and cat breeders. Unlicensed people and companies performing services remains a serious problem across the state.

Unlicensed persons performing or offering to perform services regulated by TDLR are committing a violation of the law and putting Texas families at risk.
