On Wednesday, March 2, Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association participated in the Taylor Trades Career Fair at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. Along with Texas State Technical College in Hutto, Texas Workforce Solutions, and a number of area businesses, TACCA geared up for the first busload of students expected to arrive at 8:00 a.m. Approximately 800 high school and middle school students came through during the day, and our booth saw most of them as they moved through the vendor booths to learn about careers in the trades. Okay, it’s possible our cool prize wheel may have gotten their attention, but many students asked questions and seemed interested in hearing a little about HVACR as a career. With a goal to raise awareness of HVACR as a viable career choice, we handed out flyers, brochures, prizes and of course, candy. We are hopeful some of those brochures and flyers make it to the parents and pique their interest. TACCA was a last-minute addition to the fair, but workforce development is a priority goal for TACCA, and we were able to get several of our board members to attend. Thank you to TACCA President Roland Arrisola, TACCA Treasurer Allison Hale, TACCA Director Robin Saunders, and TACCA Greater Austin President Ben Poole for taking time to visit with the students. We will be looking to attend a few more trade fairs this year. If you know of a trades career fair you think TACCA should attend, contact us at services@tacca.org.
