Continuing to Safely Open Texas for Business

Gov. Greg Abbott expanded business openings in Texas to include cosmetology salons, hair salons, barber shops and a few other similar businesses beginning Friday, May 8. Beginning May 18, office buildings, gyms and exercise facilities may open to 25% capacity, with some restrictions. All of this is subject to recommended minimum standard health protocols outlined by Department of State Health Services. The full announcement can be found here.

Of particular interest to you, if you have moved employees to working remotely over the past few weeks, may be the checklist for office-based employers. As a safety measure, you should be prepared to follow the health protocols for your facilities, including:

· training employees on appropriate cleaning and disinfection, hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette (cover your cough/sneeze, dispose of tissue, wash hands)

· screening employees before coming into the office

· maintain 6 feet of separation

· frequently cleaning and disinfecting regularly touched surfaces

· disinfecting items that come in contact with customers

· making hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, soap and water readily available

· placing visible signage to remind everyone of best hygiene practices

Do You Need Face Masks?

TACCA associate member, Tex-Air Filters, has been putting their MERV 13 filter media to good use turning them into reusable face masks. Last week, Tex-Air donated 550 masks to TACCA to distribute to our members who are struggling to locate PPE. We only have 10 packs of 20 masks left. If you need face masks for your technicians, please contact us and we will be happy to send some out to you, until we run out of supply.

Please note: These masks use the MERV 13 filter media. They should last 3-7 days, depending on the environment in which they are used, and are not washable. The masks are not classified as N95.They are efficient, but have not been tested or passed by NIOSH to achieve this rating.
