Are you managing business as usual? We have heard from some contractors who are having one of their best months ever, despite the current COVID-19 circumstances. If this describes your business right now, you are a fortunate to be keeping your workforce going strong.
But for others, the crisis has negatively impacted business. In March, our friends at Service Roundtable hosted a free online summit for contractors. Here are a few notes that I took to share.
1. Stop making excuses for why business is down and start asking “What can I do to help customers feel safer and more comfortable in their homes?” Focus your message toward safety and sanitation. This is not intended to play off of, or instill fear, but to leverage the positive impact your work can have right now. How can you help customer feel more comfortable in their homes?
2. If you are not on social media, get there. Now. Have your high schooler help you. They know how to do it and are probably bored enough to help.
a. Five Ways to Keep Your Home Safe – Filters, etc.
b. Pose and answer questions – Should I change my filters once the quarantine is over? Should I change them now? Do old filters hold germs?
3. How to stay productive while employees are sheltering at home
a. Great time to focus on training for everyone
b. Motivate your team
c. Work on strategic planning
d. Practice video – video is engaging and increases your website’s chance of showing up in searches
i. Film horizontally
ii. Make sure sound is clear
iii. Use good lighting
This disruption in work is hard on everyone, but maybe there is a positive side to focus on. I mean, how often are you able to really work ON your business and not IN it?
